I’ve lived in Hurley for over 16 years now in a 1936 Adirondack cottage that began life as an artist’s studio. I chose Hurley because it’s just over 5 minutes into Kingston and the Thruway – 1 hour and 40 minutes into Manhattan! – and yet managed to live in the woods at the same time. I got a lot more than I bargained for: Hurley taxes remain perhaps the lowest in the county and the services – road work, plowing, etc. — are exemplary.
Not far away at all as you drive past rolling farmland is the village of Hurley itself – a street of 17th-century Dutch stone houses out of a fairytale book – with its own library, post office, general store, and the Hurley Mountain Inn where burgers and the sports bar hold sway.
